While studying in China, I wanted to explore the countryside, so a couple of friends and I ventured to what is called Bamboo Sea with no trees besides thousands of varieties of bamboo. We only spoke a little Chinese and really had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. However, a wonderful Chinese family that was also visiting the area took us under their wings and made the experience so much more memorable. We hiked the fabulous trails together as we stumbled through understanding each other. The trails were breathtaking with buildings, temples, and rock engravement along the way, not to mention mushroom sellers. It was even neat to discover that the movie Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon was filmed in part of the area.
